How might we leverage data-driven insights to transform the user experience for property seekers?
During my one year at Bayut, I worked as a Product Designer on multiple platforms, including the Bayut CRM, mobile app, website, and marketing sites. Most of my focus was on the Bayut Mobile App, where I introduced a culture of rapid A/B testing and data-driven decision-making. I also led and onboarded a team of two designers, fostering a collaborative environment where ideas and feedback were shared freely to drive impactful design solutions.

Challenge
Bayut’s mobile app faced multiple user experience issues, including suboptimal engagement and underwhelming app store ratings. Vital features were buried inside a hamburger menu, limiting discoverability. We needed to boost user satisfaction, encourage engagement, and elevate our design process through data-driven decisions.

Approach & Key Projects
My strategy centered on fostering a culture of experimentation, continuous feedback, and cross-platform consistency. Below are some of the core projects I led while managing and collaborating with my team of three designers:
1. A/B Testing on Main Listings Page
We ran a multivariate test on the main listings page to explore how quick actions—like email, call, or message buttons—affected conversions. Through systematic experimentation, we identified the optimal layout for driving user engagement.

2. Optimising Mobile App Reviews
By prompting users to review the app at the right moment in their journey, we saw a significant boost in positive Play Store and App Store reviews. This contributed to a noticeable increase in overall ratings.

3. Navigation Redesign
To increase feature discoverability, we replaced the hamburger menu with a bottom navigation bar. Inspired by best practices and user feedback, this shift made key actions more accessible on larger screens. Internal data and user surveys showed a notable increase in engagement post-launch.

Impact
Our data-driven experiments and systematic UX improvements culminated in the following results:
• App store rating climbed from 4.0 to 4.508 (a 12.7% increase)
• Record-high 108 ratings in a single month
• Reduced app size from 19 MB to 12.8 MB
• Monthly rating average of 4.67 vs peer average of 4.41

Key Learnings
Leading this initiative at Bayut underscored the power of data-driven design decisions and the value of a rapid testing culture. By rigorously experimenting with app features and systematically collecting user feedback, we improved conversions, ratings, and user satisfaction. Equally crucial was onboarding and guiding new designers, ensuring a collaborative culture that maximized our team’s impact and accelerated the product’s evolution.
